Modus Operandi was a performance work aiming to help reveal the creative process.

- Original Artist Statement, April 2010
It is certain that a creative process precedes any creative result, yet, people rarely know anything about it beyond their own assumptions. They struggle just to understand their own process let alone others and even when mastered, process surely remains incredibly difficult to faithfully translate into words. Digitization has added further complexity by rapidly evolving the tools of creative production such that in some cases only experts keeping up with a particular genre of technology have any incline of how their fields creative process functions.
Modus Operandi attempts humanize this nebulous space by sidestepping exposition altogether. A performer designs visual interpretations of words from Sousveillance. As the audience adds their own text they stand to witness how their creative input influences the performers process. These truncated revelations help us understand one another better and I believe facilitate, however slightly, an increase of empathy in the world.
